Pet Blogger Challenge

1. When did you begin your blog?

January 23, 2011

2. What was your original purpose for starting a blog?

While training Gopher for therapy work I was frustrated about the minimal stories on what actually goes on during visits. I wanted to get something out there so people who might be interested in this kind of volunteering would know what happens in the room.

3. Is your current purpose the same?

Yes and no.

If not, what’s different?

I have broadened a bit due to Gopher giving us material that is amazing and shows how inclined he is to the work. I have also posted in response to readers questions as well.

If so, how do you feel you’ve met your goals?

Feels like we are just getting started still.

4. Do you blog on a schedule or as the spirit moves you?

Yes once every 7-10 days.

5. Are you generating income from your blog?

No

6. What do you like most about blogging in general and your blog in particular (bragging is good!)?

Sharing the experiences, hopefully getting others interested.

7. What do you like least?

Limitations in my own ability to describe some of what I have seen.

8. How do you see your blog changing/growing in 2012?

Continuing to grow, and hoping to get more public questions that could expand into a discussion panel.

  1. Now, why did I think this might be a blog about gophers? ;p

That said, it's great to meet a hardworking dog like Gopher.

My blog is twice as old as yours but it still feels new some days. It's a fun learnng curve. Happy blogging in 2012!

  4. What a wonderful idea for a blog. After years of adopting shelter dogs, I decided to adopt a Golden Retriever puppy from a good breeder so I could find some kind of work to do with my dog.

It isn't that shelter dogs can't be good work partners but I thought with my limited experience I'd do better by "stacking the deck."

I don't think I or Honey are suited to therapy work. It looks like our work together will be fostering dogs.

But I love the idea of providing an insider's look at your work. Just wonderful.

    1. Thank you, fostering is such a wonderful thing. Gopher and I foster as well. There are a few entries on how he has been a Therapy Dog to our fosters as well.

  5. Very interesting to hear your niche - therapy dog work - and how you are responding to a paucity in the blogging community. Nice to come across your blog, and all the best for blogging in 2012.

  6. I can't wait to read about Gopher's adventures in 2012. I've actually been thinking about certifying our career changed guide dog, Stetson as a Therapy Dog. We passed our Canine Good Citizen already and we've already spoke to others in our guide dog group who are members of both Delta Society and Therapy Dogs International. I think 2012 is the year we get Stetson involved as a therapy dog. Best of luck to you and Gopher in 2012!
